- .. To print this documentation, run the batch file FORMITDC.
- ..
- .. If you don't have the batch file, follow these instructions:
- ..
- .. 1) If you have an IBM or close compatible (you can use BIOS interrupts
- .. 10H and 16H (screen and kbd) as described in Appendix A of the IBM Tech
- .. Ref manual) use FORMIT. Otherwise, use FORMIT-M.
- ..
- .. If you are not sure if your machine meets this criterion, (or your BBS
- .. didn't have the FORMIT-M.COM file) try FORMIT -- but put a copy onto a
- .. physical disk, as FORMIT may hang insufficiently compatible machines.)
- ..
- .. 2) Make sure that the files FORMIT.COM (or FORMIT-M.COM) and FORMIT.DOC
- .. are either on the default drive, or in the default directory of some
- .. drive.
- ..
- .. 3) -> If youáhave an Epson FX, type "FORMIT FORMIT«DOC".
- .. -> If you do not have an FX, but your printer prints 10 characters per
- .. inch, 66 lines per page, and advances the paper to the top of the
- .. next page when it "sees" a form feed (^L, chr$(12)) -- as most
- .. printers do -- type "FORMIT FORMIT.DOC \.FF".
- .. *** Type a semicolon instead of the backslash, "\". The semicolon is
- .. *** a special character that cannot be included in comment lines, but
- .. *** "\.FF" will NOT work.
- .. -> Otherwise, type "FORMIT FORMIT.DOC \.TT" (** Type a semicolon, **)
- .. (** NOT a backslash. **)
- ..
- .. 4) If you are using a RAM disk, FORMIT will take about two minutes. If you
- .. are using floppies, about five. A hard disk should be somewhere in
- .. between.
- ..
- .. 5) The formatted manual is about 30 pages long on an FX, and somewhat
- .. longer on other printers. When you are ready to print it, type
- .. "COPY FORMAT.PRN PRN".
- ..
- .. 6) Curse the clown who didn't upload the batch file. It does all five steps
- .. above.

-
- FORMIT is a text formatter designed expressly for the Epson FX series of
- printers. It takes full advantage of all the printer's features, allowing
- you to create professional looking documents with multiple fonts and pitchs
- without special programming. With other printers, it will give you full
- control over page layout and justification.

- Many of the special features can also be used with Epson MX or RX printers,
- or Epson compatibles like the Okidata, but these do
- not support all the FX features. If you do not know whether your printer has
- a particuliar feature mentioned in this manual, try it: you can't hurt the
- printer.

- It is easy to use: you can print simple memos and reports without reading any
- further simply by typing:

- at the DOS command prompt. This will read the ASCII file "filename.ext" and
- print it double spaced and paginated, with any ragged paragraphs cleaned up and
